Ready to Lead Once More

Barack Obama has officially been inaugurated as the 44th President of the United States of America, and stated in his inaugural address that the United States is “ready to lead once more.”
He spoke of many things that we, as a country, need to do to regain (or at least to live up to) our status as a world-leader country, including improving our economy (and the rest of the world’s), listening to real science, not politically-based science, raise health care quality, reduce health care cost, focus on schools, colleges, and universities to help them meet the requirements of today and the future. But the statement that most jibes with this blog’s focus was, “We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories.”
So, let us all hope and pray that President Obama will lead in all of these ways, and that he will finally lead the U.S. on a more sustainable, green, environmental path. And let us hope that harnessing the sun and the winds and the soil for fuel is only the very beginning of a long-term change in the United States, the West’s, and the World’s views and actions on the environment. It seems that President Obama understands that we are a part of the natural world, not apart from it, and that Mother Nature nurtures us so long as we don’t piss her off.
Because if Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.
So here’s to President Barack Hussein Obama, and his statement, “My fellow citizens, I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors.” God bless America.
And here is my statment: “My fellow citizens (of the Earth), I blog here today humbled by the fact that you read my words, grateful for the trust you imply by reading them, and mindful of the questions you want answered about how to live more lightly on this Earth.” My promise to you is that I will keep you informed of environmental information, products, action, and good news… “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of environmental blogger, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Earth.”
Namaste,
A. Caleb Hartley
How do you feel about President Obama? Do you think that this day marks a turning point in environmental history? Do you think this day will be remembered as the day that the tide turned for the Earth, pushing all of its inhabitants in a positive direction? Plant a seed in the comments and let the conversation grow!

I worry that we are not really ready for this kind of leadership, but I hope, with all my heart and soul that we are. Here’s to a more sustainable future, sustainable energy and a sustainable economy that truly gives EVERYONE a chance to succeed.

Hi there,
I have been away for a while and it feels good to be back.
I most definitely think it marks a great and too long awaited change.
It feels good to be proud to be an American again and to once again feel hopeful.
We have a lot of hard work to do and the road ahead will be hard.
But, he is just so inspirational that I do believe he will be able to continue to inspire all of us here and globally to make some changes!

Let’s hope that Obama is true to his word and helps move our country in the right direction. Sustainable energy and reducing greenhouse gases are two major issues that hopefully pushed ahead during his time as president.
