This car is smart…

The smart micro compact - to remind those who may have forgotten (or to inform those who don’t already know) - will make it official US debut in January of 2008!

These little cars are fully conventional (meaning NOT hybrid, though an electric version may make an appearance in the near future - it is currently being tested in Europe), but achieve around 40 miles per gallon.  In the line of the Toyota Prius, the Honda Civic Hybrid, and other hybrid cars, the smart will make an interesting alternative to our normal, gas guzzling boats we see on the road today.

If you don’t want to give up the comfort you have in your current car, it seems that the smart is roomier on the inside than it seems on the outside - according to USA Weekend, “even tall and rotund drivers may think it’s comfortable.”  And really, think about most of the driving you do - just you, driving back and forth to work, I bet.

Additionally, the cost will start at less than $12,000!

Bottom line, if you need to drive (read: “if you live most anywhere in the United States, where there is very little mass transit,”), and you’re in the market for a car, think about the smart ForTwo… if nothing else, traffic jams will be half the size they usually are!  :)

Namaste,
A. Caleb Hartley

My aunt loves her new Prius. She gets 60 miles to the gallon! We always let her drive. LOL (I found you through EntCard)

I`m a “Top Gear” Show Fan and all I can say is that I hope one day to drive a supercar even it goes on galons of fuel/mile.
And If I am to believe that the 2012 will be the end of our life as we know it, who needs these “green cars”?

Karen: I’ve wanted a Prius since they were introduced in the US! Can’t afford one just yet, but I’m working on it through my online businesses. :)

Sasha: I’ve added you to my blogroll - please do the same for me!

Cristian: I’m not saying don’t go have fun! I fly airplanes - not exactly the most efficient mode of transport - because I love it. but I certainly wouldn’t fly my plane (at 10-12 gallons per hour) back and forth to work every day… :)

    Namaste,
    Caleb

Hi! Thanks for your kind words! If you are going to run a blog contest in the future, contact me!

About teh Smart: here in Italy we have this little car since many years. It’s not a common car, it’s something like a status symbol, not for everybody. I don’t like it very much, mostly because it’s too little (it’s ok if you are alone, but there is a little problem if you want to carry more people - and to use no more than one car) and not so stable (in my opinion). However, if you have a smart, you may park almost everywhere (here space is a big problem…).
    All the best

G & K Auto has been importing and legalizing the Smart car for the US for a few years. They are an interesting little car. Good for a tight city area, but on an open highway , they are such a small car.

They are a very safe car, and perform well in a crash test. I have seen cars that they used in crash testing, and they do really well.

Well I have to admit I have never really considered a Smart car, I saw them in Europe a few years ago and they were a novelty but that was about it.

On another note thanks for replying on LifeIsRisky.Com and entering the Entrecard contest. I appreciate it.
