Countdown to a Green Valentine’s Day - Day 1

Posted by User ImageA. Caleb Hartley on February 13th, 2008 filed in appliance, investing

Okay all - tomorrow is actually Valentine’s Day.  After all the talk and the discussion, it’s actually happening.  And we’ve been through all the cliches I can think of while learning how to green the romantic gifts we all give every 14th of February.

So today, the last day of environmentastic!’s Green Valentine’s Day Countdown, we’ll discuss some non-cliche, non-traditional green gift ideas for your sweetheart.

Knowing, as you all surely do, that I’m a romantic at heart, I suggest buying energy-star appliances.  These appliances will save energy in one of the places in your home that probably currently wastes the most power.

Not romantic enough?  Then I suggest contacting one of the many Socially-Responsible Investing (SRI) companies and buying into a green mutual fund.  What’s more romantic than a secure retirement that you don’t have to feel guilty about?

If even that kind of green doesn’t interest you, I suggest joining Co-Op America and flipping through their National Green Pages to find a non-traditional Valentine’s Day gift.

My wife, by the way, begs you - my readers - to think very carefully before choosing any of my suggestions for some reason.  She’s partial to the suggestions made on Day 2 of the Countdown, Day 10, and Day 4.  I’m still not really sure why she made that face when I mentioned today’s post.

Namaste,
A. Caleb Hartley

It’s already 14th February here, but I don’t want to celebrate this day, because it’s kind of sorrow for me to remember back my girlfriend’s accident…:(

Good to see your interest in socially responsible investing. I’ve been following the subject for around forty years.

Despite the gaining popularity of socially responsible investing, I’ve found insufficient good information and media coverage on the subject. So in 2002 I started a website to fill this void. In the past year or so, I’ve also been covering the latest global green and socially responsible investing news. Interested readers can see my site at http://investingforthesoul.com

Good luck and best wishes, Ron Robins
