Central Ohio “Public Green” installation

Posted by User ImageA. Caleb Hartley on May 12th, 2008 filed in art

The Worthington Arts Council is seeking donations of plastic bottles and containers for a “visual-arts installation” this summer called Public Green.

Supported by Sustainable Worthington, these plastic bottles and containers will be collected until June 18th, and will be used by William Cravis to create the “installation” during the summer of 2008. Mr. Cravis is a professor of sculpture at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Check out the above sites for more information or for drop-off sites for your plastic bottles and containers.

Namaste,
A. Caleb Hartley

I hope the installation gets recycled at the end of it’s run. What do you think about this concept? Tell us all about it in the comments!

The Worthington Arts Council told me the bottles will be recycled when the event is over (August, I think).

We still need more bottles and other plastic recycleable containers, with caps - especially colored ones like laundry jugs.

We had a wonderful time at the installation yesterday — the artist gave an informal talk, and we all got to help putles into the 12′ in diameter rattan ball (there’s only one, which took ALL the rattan the artist had ordered — and we didn’t have enough bottles to fill it!)

So check it out — N corner of Evening St. and SR 161, a block west of High Street — and if you can collect more bottles, please rinse them, take the labels off and leave the caps on. Small ones can be pushed through on the sides, large ones can be tossed into the bigger hole at the top.

Likw so many creative projects, what came about differs from what was planned — but the result has been more interactive and thought provoking, which is great.
