Tagged – “How big is your blego?”
Posted by A. Caleb Hartley on January 22nd, 2008 filed in blego, memeEnvironmentastic! has been tagged by Darkside Dreamland with a new meme: “How Big is Your Blego?”
Defined by Evil Woobie in the Entrecard Forums as “an acronym of “blog ego”, which pertains to a blogger’s sense of self in the blogosphere,” EW began this meme, the rules of which are laid out below.
The rules:
- The person tagged must copy the word and paste the definitions of the word contributed previously by the people who did the meme. Link backs would be nice, but not necessary.
- The person tagged must then add her own definition in this format ‘yourname.com’s definition’ and place your link. Being creative with the acronym is encouraged.
- Answer the following questions.
- tag 5 other people to do the meme.
Questions
1. Do you know what your blog is really about, and you can write a one-sentence promotional material for it in a flash? If yes, write it here. If no, skip this.
2. Do you join social networks to promote your blog? If yes, do you hope to find friends in these social networks and in the process get regular readers of your blog? If no, skip this.
3. Do you or do you plan to join ranking sites that put your blog in competition with others for popularity? If yes, do you or do you plan to monitor your stats regularly? If no, skip this.
4. Do you tweak your blog often in accordance with the tips you get from blogging guides and gurus? If yes, list the bloggers you visit often to obtain these tips. If no, skip this.
5. Do you think of your next post even if you have just written a new one? If yes, list your inspirations for posting, and/or some routines that you go through before posting. If no, skip this.
Here goes:
Blego (evilwoobie.com’s definition) – n. an acronym of “blog ego”, which pertains to a blogger’s sense of self in the blogosphere.
Blego (Darkside-Dreamland.com’s definition) – n. a protologism combining blog and ego. Used to define the ego of a blog or blogger. Like personal ego, blego may be good or bad.
Blego (environmentastic.com’s definition) – n. according to the psychologist Sigmund Freud, the ego is the part of the mind which contains the consciousness; therefore, the blego is the part of the web which contains a blogger’s consciousness and “sense of self.”
1. environmentastic! was created by A. Caleb Hartley as a way to distribute news about and encourage the positive things happening in the environmental movement without ignoring the bad things happening to the Earth.
2. Yes. I have joined several, some of which have been more engaging than others – Entrecard has been hands down the best so far. I’ve also recently joined blogcatalog, and have been a member of MySpace, Facebook, technorati, MyBlogLog, twitter, etc., with varying success. I have not focused on these as is necessary to see really good results, unfortunately.
3. I like the idea of joining cometitions for site popularity, but since I am not particularly a techie, I always feel like there are ways to game the competitions that I am not privvy to, and therefore I get beaten by sites that are. Not necessarily “cheating” persay, but taking advantage of the technology as opposed to letting the game play out. That said, yes, I will most likely enter these competitions, if only for the exposure.
4. I don’t tweak incredibly often. I do read blogs like Tyler Cruz, etc. and listen to podcasts like Internet Business Mastery, though since really starting to focus on updating environmentastic! and posting more often, my reading and listening to those have dropped off considerably. I’m sure I’ll get back to them eventually.
5. I don’t plan as much as gather. I find information that might be pertinent to the focus of environmentastic!, and I gather some information from various sources, copy and paste the URLs into a draft post (and/or save clippings in a file folder), then at some point I may come back to the info and actually finish the post. Otherwise, I generally just write what comes to mind and locate sources as I write.
Next comes the fun part – the five blogs I choose to continue the meme: It Takes a Planet to Raise a Child, B Green, HorsePigCow (even though Tara isn’t fond of Memes, I hope she does this), Joyful Jubilant Learning, and Out of the Cube.
Namaste,
A. Caleb Hartley
I won’t promise to do all the memes that come my way, but generally, I think they are a nice way to give a little “link love” to those bloggers you admire and enjoy. Thanks for sending it my way, DD!
